A HISTORY OF GOOD HEALTH Wyoming Valley Health Care System was created in 1992 when Wilkes-Barre
General Hospital and Nesbitt Memorial Hospital merged into one outstanding
health care provider. In the fall of 2001, all acute care services
at Nesbitt Memorial Hospital were transferred to Wilkes-Barre General
Hospital, thus providing better, more sophisticated and higher quality
health care to the community while eliminating unnecessary duplication
of services. As part of this transfer, the Obstetrics and Pediatrics
Departments were relocated to newly renovated areas on the Wilkes-Barre
General Hospital third floor, forming the modern, technologically
advanced Nesbitt Women's and Children's Center.
In the summer of 2002, Nesbitt Memorial Hospital was renamed Nesbitt
Memorial Medical Center, and the majority of our behaviorial health
services relocated into the renovated facility.
The storied history of our institution reads like a history of
the larger community. Follow our time lines for a quick and very
informative sequence that tells you what we were, where we've been
and how we became all that we are.
