As long as cardiovascular disease occurs, The Heart and Vascular Institute at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital will continue to dedicate extensive resources to the finest measures for diagnosing it, treating it and helping rehabilitate its victims. But our full role is even more encompassing.
The fact is, the Institute maintains a fully-staffed research arm that was created specially to work at finding answers to some of the most challenging questions about heart and vascular disease.
The "Write Stuff" In Cardiovascular Research:
In order to help fight cardiovascular disease to the fullest extent, many of our
cardiologists, cardiac surgeons, interventional radiologists and other staff members engage in ongoing research efforts – and their findings or conclusions have been published in many of the nation's leading medical journals.
Given the stature and importance of The Heart and Vascular Institute's place in cardiovascular treatment, it's not a surprise that many of our staff members are serving – or have served – as editorial reviewers for many of those medical publications. Their responsibilities include verifying data and providing professional expertise related to studies that have been submitted to the publications.
Taking Great Heart All Around the World:
At the same time, many Heart and Vascular Institute physicians travel around the country and around the world, serving as guests and lecturers at some of the most prestigious medical forums and gatherings. For instance, our physicians have presented for the American College of Physicians, the World Assembly of the American College of Angiology, the Scientific Assembly of the American College of Chest Physicians, the Society of Thoracic Surgeons and many more. In addition, our staff members are lectured at medical presentations in locations as diverse as Japan, China, Austria, Poland, France and Spain.
